Casino withdrawal fees: what UK rules allow

From the Commission’s guidance on fair and transparent terms.

  • A fee must reflect real cost

This fee must not exceed the cost of processing the withdrawal.

  • It must be shown before you deposit

A fee for a cash withdrawal must be made clear before you pay in.

  • No charge to take everything out

The Commission states that a player should not be charged for a withdrawal if the withdrawal results in a zero balance.

  • No maximum on your deposit balance

A casino can impose limits on the size and number of withdrawals if the player makes a series of small withdrawals.

This guidance also states that a casino is prohibited from placing restrictions on a player's ability to withdraw deposits. Our article on whether a casino can keep your winnings discusses other terms a casino is prohibited from including.

The fees you can meet when you withdraw

These terms are often imposed by the payment provider rather than the casino.

  • Small withdrawal feesA flat charge on withdrawals below a threshold, such as Casumo's £3 under £10. Avoid it by waiting until you have more to take out.
  • Unplayed deposit feesA charge for paying in and taking the money straight back out, such as Duelz's 5% or £5. Play the deposit through once and it does not apply.
  • Provider and bank chargesYour e-wallet, card issuer or bank may charge, especially to convert currency. The casino does not control these. Paying by bank avoids most of them; see our pay by bank casinos.

The quickest casinos on our list charge no fees for withdrawals of 10 GBP or more. Check out our list of fastest-withdrawal casinos in the UK. Another type of fee that is charged, but not called a withdrawal fee is charged by casinos who take a small monthly balance as a service fee after a player has not made any transactions for more than a year. How to avoid casino withdrawal fees

Almost every fee on this page is avoidable.

  1. 1Read the payments page before you deposit

All games have rules. Fees must be disclosed by casinos. If these rules are not made available, contact customer support to request disclosure of the rules.

  2. 2Withdraw above the fee threshold

One larger withdrawal is less expensive than two smaller withdrawals anywhere that charges on small amounts.

  3. 3Play a deposit through before cashing out

Once a deposit is wagered at least once, the fee charged for leaving the deposit balance untouched is removed.

  4. 4Pay in and out in pounds

Use a payment method and an account that is denominated in GBP to eliminate foreign transaction fees.

  5. 5Do not leave money sitting

Withdraw funds that you are not going to play to avoid fees.

Fees should always be disclosed by casinos. If casinos charge a fee to process a withdrawal and/or charge a fee to withdraw the entire balance, ask the casino to refund the fee.

Casino withdrawal fees: questions

Do UK casinos charge withdrawal fees?

Of the 10 casinos we review, 8 do not charge a fee for a withdrawal. The other 2, Casumo and Duelz charge fees for withdrawals under 10 GBP and for leaving unplayed balance, respectively.

Is it legal for a casino to charge a withdrawal fee?

Yes, to some degree. The Gambling Commission states that fees must be shown upfront, reflect the direct cost of processing the withdrawal, and not be charged on the withdrawal of the entire deposit balance.

What is the minimum withdrawal at UK casinos?

Among the casinos we review, the minimum withdrawal amount is £5 at Grosvenor and BetVictor, while the maximum is £20 at Duelz. Most others set the amount at £10.

Why do I pay a fee on an unplayed deposit?

Some casinos charge a fee if a player deposits and withdraws money without playing it through. For example, at Duelz, if a player doesn't wager the deposit amount, the casino keeps 5% or £5, whichever is higher.

Can a casino limit how much I withdraw?

The casino is not allowed to limit the amount of a deposit that a player withdraws. Reasonable limits may be set on the number of withdrawals. Payment methods and the means of transaction also may set limits on the amount of a single transaction.
